Kovalam is one of the most attractive and famous beaches in the world. It is a perfect tropical beach with silvery white sands, shining sun and mild waves. The beauty of Kovalam is truly unmatched and the large number of coconut palms by the beach adds to the splendid charm. Kovalam is 16 kilometers from Trivandrum. Kovalam is one of the mesmerizing place in Kerala.

Kovalam, meaning "a groove of coconut trees". It is actually a combination of three small beaches. Among these, the southernmost beach, named Lighthouse Beach, is the most frequented beach in Kovalam. Earlier this beach of Kovalam was an anglers' paradise. It still has some small villages, just a few kilometres away, which belong to the fishing community. Gradually, this beach of Kovalam has been transformed to a tourist spot of great interest.











The beautiful beaches of Kovalam are truly enchanting and are ideal for swimming with its shallow beaches and mild waves. At some places one can walk up to a hundred meters into the sea and still the water will be only chest high. It really is an amazing place and gives any visitor a holiday he will never forget. Kovalam was brought into the focus of World Tourism around thirty years back by the Royal family of Travancore, the erstwhile rulers of Central Kerala. Kovalam consists of three successive crescent beaches, the most popular being the Lighthouse Beach. The middle beach is called Hawah, while the northern beach is Samudra.

This sprawling palace houses paintings of Lord Krishna and his cowherds. Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple: This imposing seven-storied tower is an excellent example of the Dravidian style of architecture.

* Veli Lagoon (Tourist Village)
This wonderful waterfront park is an ideal picnic spot where the lake merges with sea.

Formally known as Napier Museum , the museum blends traditional Kerala styles with Chinese and Mughal architecture.

* Sree Chithra Art Gallery
The gallery has a rich collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and Roerich.

One of the best maintained zoos in Asia, it has beautiful expansive lawns. Science and Technology Museum: This museum is of high educative value for students of science and technology.

* Akkulam Boat Club
This Lake has boating facilities and has the largest children's park in Kerala.
