Modern Indian Music












Modern Indian music is fusion without confusion. Melody takes the prime post of importance, and fusion is used as an essential enhancement in the Modern Indian Music of the early 21st century. The trend is positive (considering what we had in the 80s) and solid. There are bound to be further experimentation with music as new creators join in. The music lovers certainly will have no dearth of good music.

In the present day, there are far less people who enjoy Indian classical music as they feel it is too slow for them. Many youngsters go a step further terming classical music to be boring. But then, enjoying music is a personal journey and purely depends on the moods. However, in keeping with times and demands, today, most music composers have shifted from the classical to newer forms, whereby they imbibe the Indian melody and tunes with the western beats.

Modern Indian Music is something very interesting to note and listen to. Modern Indian Music, needless to say has been influenced by a number of factors. The influence of the past lingers on with an attempt to leap into a more melodious tomorrow. As per many researches and observation it has been noted that the changes in the existing scenario in music and the incoming of a new kind of music started sometime in the 1970s. Modern Indian music comprises:

*Remixes
In this type of music, the old tunes are blended with faster beats making them popular amongst the younger generation. These are generally played at discos and parties.

*Fusion
It is that type of music where Indian classical music is combined with the western music forms to create a musical mix of east and west

*Film music
It is in fact extremely popular amongst people of all age groups. In fact an Indian film is considered incomplete without songs with the heroes and heroines dancing. Undoubtedly there is a clear distinction between the type of songs that were composed between the 1940s and 1980s and those composed ever since

*Indi pop
It is basically the Indian version of the western pop music. There are number of young artists who sign up with music companies to cut an album of pop songs in Hindi and other regional languages.















Indian Modern Music is also the result of the shedding cultural and custom barriers in terms of sharing the finer aspects of life present in music, culture and literature of various countries. The western influence with the coming up of discos and much of the modern lifestyle that has been inherited by the people for the job scenario and practice of mixed culture has played a vital role in the coming up of the Modern Indian Music.

Modern Indian Music with all its prominence and presence surely gives a sense of joy, excitement and enjoyment. But at the same time care should be taken of the fact that the culmination of the west and the east should not uproot the rich treasure of the eastern traditional classical music. The eastern classical music in its purity definitely deserves an equal or a larger share of interest but with the choice of the present generation leaning towards a bit more jazzy and flashy kind of a music, which is truly found in the composition of Modern Indian Music.

Music in modern India has a huge variation that is created keeping in mind the preferences of the new generation. To create a subtle difference in tunes and mood, the blend of tunes and faster beats are added. Sometimes, fusion is created with blending Indian classical music with western music. Keeping pace with the modern world, Indi pop music is also created. This type of music is created with the amalgamation of Indian and western pop music.

Music in modern India imbibes not only the western influence but in some cases the traditional Indian music are presented in the veil of modernity. Sometimes, `raga` and `taal` which are the most important parts of Indian music are removed from the latest compositions to make the music fit to the modern trend. The tunes, usage of some western musical instruments, words and the trend tend to create a new type of music though the replica of western and Indian fusion is always extant in them. A.R Rahman is one of the famous music composer in India who has given a lot of contribution to the Indian music.
