Chhattisgarh-Location



















Chhattisgarh is a 21st century State, came into being on November 1, 2000 after it got divided from Madhya Pradesh. It is larger than Tamil Nadu and is also fortunate to have a low population density. . The capital of the state is Raipur. It includes sixteen districts.

Chhattisgarh is bordered by Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh in the north, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Orissa in the east and Madhya Pradesh in the west.It is situated in the heart place of India and is the Madhyapradesh's south eastern portion. The state lies at 17°46' N to 24°5'N latitude and 80°15' E to 84°20' E longitude.

Chhattisgarh takes its name from 36 (Chattis is thirty-six in Hindi and Garh is Fort) princely states in this region. Ancient name of Chhattisgarh is Southern Kosal.

It is the 10th largest state of India by area. Chattisgarh has a population density of 154 person per square kilometer, the highest concentration being in the areas of Raipur and Durg. Good Governance is the highest priority in this Fast Track State. There is both policy stability as well as political stability. Government has been kept small and the State is in excellent fiscal health.

Chhattisgarh is truly a land of opportunities. With all major minerals including diamonds in abundance, it is the richest State in mineral resources. There are mega industries in Steel, Aluminium and Cement. Chhattisgarh contributes substantially to the Human Resources of India. The major crops produced in the state are rice, sugarcane, banana, pulses, and wheat.The forest products that are produced are teak, sal, bamboo, sheeshal, mahua, tamarind, haldu, saja, sheesham, and various herbs.

The Chhattisgarhi language, a dialect of eastern Hindi, is a predominant language in the state, recognized along with Hindi as the official language of the state. In addition, many tribal and some Dravidian influenced dialects or languages are spoken in various parts of Chhattisgarh.
