India, officially the Republic of India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country in the world, by geographical area. Also it is the second-most populous country and the most populous democracy in the world. The country is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the South, the Arabian Sea on the West and the Bay of Bengal on the East. India has a coastline of 7,517 kilometres. The country is bordered by Pakistan to the West, People's Republic of China, Nepal and Bhutan to the North; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the East.
India is a republic consists of 28 states and 7 union territories with a parliamentary system of democracy. The country has the world's twelfth largest economy at market exchange rates and the fourth largest in purchasing power.
The capital of India is New Delhi. The largest city in India is Mumbai. Hindi and English are the official languages in India. The Independence of India was declared on and the August 1947Republic was on 26 January 1950.
