Kerala Tourism - Idukki
























Idukki is situated at the top of Western Ghats surrounded by mountains. Idukki is a much sought after destination for any tourist to India, it is being one of the most wonderful hill stations in the world noted for tantalizing natural beauty, variety, and bio-diversity. Idukki is hence a spice planter's delight with vast sloping territories of spice plantations of the order of tea, coffee, cardamom, cinnamon etc. which remain as the beauty flagships of this prized hill station in Kerala.









Idukki is the spice garden of Kerala. With the Sahya ranges occupying most of the geographical area, Idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. High ranges and wooded valleys of Idukki offers diverse attractions like wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantation tours, jungle walks and safaris, mountain treks, elephant rides etc.









¤ Tourist Attractions of Idukki

* Idukki Arch Dam
Idukki Arch Dam is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam, constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, and it lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage. The dam measures 550 ft. high and 650 ft. wide, and to its west is the Kulamavu Dam. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is adjacent to this dam as well. The Idukki Reservoir comprised of the three dams, Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamanu, extends to 33 sq.km.

* Hill View Park
Justifying the title, the Hill View Park offers a panoramic view of a large area than one can experience from any high mountain park. Views of herds of wild elephants in their natural habital enthrall any visitor. This park is adjacent to both Idukki Arch Dam and Cheruthony Dam. Spread over an area of 8 acres of land this aesthetically conceived park has a natural water body at the hill top, and facilities including pedal boating are available here.

* Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, this blessed gift of nature spreads over an area of 77 sq. kilometers at a commanding height of 450 -750 kilometers above sea level, covered in Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district. Animals including wild boars ,bison, jungle cat, wild dog etc can be witnessed in their natural habitat.

* Nadukani
Nadukani is perfect place for picnickers. this location offers panoramic view of a large area of the same and nearby districts. There is two-storied pavilion for the tourists to get a better panoramic view of the place.

* Kulamavu
Kulamavu is the dam-site which provides a trekking trail to adventurous tourists.

* Cheruthoni
Cheruthoni is the Idukki Arch Dam site from where a panoramic aerial view of the reservoir is possible.

* Thommankuthu
Thommankuthu is a tourist spot that is 17km from Thodupuzha. The 7-step waterfall at Thommankuthu is much admired picnic spot. There is a cascade at each step, and a Pool beneath. This is an ideal place for adventure tourism.

* Keezharkuthu
The Tourist travel distance to Keezharkuthu is 25 km from Thodupuzha. The Rain Bow waterfalls cascading down a rock from a height of about 1500 mts is the attraction of this spot.

* Palkulamedu
Rendering geographical marvel to eyes, Kochi, Alappuzha and other towns can be viewed from these peaks located 3125 mts above see level. Palkulamedu is located 12km from Idukki.

* Peerumed
With its abundant natural beauty, this place awaits the tourists who come to sip the natural beauty., escaping from the stress and strain of life. Barren hills densed with tea estates add more beauty to the place.

* Iravikkulam National Park
Iravikkulam National Park spread over 97sq.kms with Barren hills, meadows, rock rafts and wild animals will fascinate any one.

* Anamudy
Stands at an altitude of 2694 metres on the southern boarder of the National park will evoke wonder in the tourists.

* Chinnar
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is 60Kms away from Devikul.

* Mattuppetty
It is located at a height of 1700 mt above sea level above sea level, Mattuppetty is specially know for its highly specialized dairy farm- Indo Swiss Livestock project.
